"ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION” CAN IMPROVE HEALTH
The City of Cook and St. Louis County Health Department under the guidance of SHIP (State Health Improvement Program) has formed the Active Transportation Coalition (ATC).
Safer walking and biking opportunities, speed signage on the south entrance to Cook, and general education are among ATCs projects.
“Move Your Body” is one reminder. You can move it by walking, biking, dancing, skating or rolling in your wheelchair! Many of today’s ills can be improved through increased activity or “active transportation” … high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, diabetes, depression, anxiety and osteoporosis are some of the diseases improved if you “move your body”.
“Sitting is the new Smoking” and ATC encourages you to move your butts out of that chair! Active Transportation of some kind for as little as 30 minutes, six times a week can help you lose weight, improve your outlook and improve your health.
Music in the Park on Wednesday nights from 6:30 – 8 PM is an opportunity for you to dance, to walk around the block (800 easy steps – 5-10 minutes). It’s not a race but an enjoyable First Step to “Moving Your Body”.
